The Weather

Roatan Island offers year round tropical beauty, with average temperatures ranging from the high 70’s in winter to the 90’s in summer. Water temperatures stay within the same range, which means that booking a December getaway on Roatan won’t leave you stranded in a dismal hotel room all week.

During the rainy season (November to late January), daytime temperatures stay within the 80’s, but night time averages can reach the low 70’s. “Rainy season” on Roatan is still nice enough to book a trip; rain showers are typically short, lasting only an hour or two, and clearing rapidly. Night time rains are usually longer, but even long rains usually clear before brunch.

During hurricane season, Roatan has enjoyed remarkable good luck, with most storms missing the island. The last hurricane to hit Roatan Island was in 1998, which created a media storm locals are still laughing about. Estimates and reports of Hurricane Mitch’s damage to the island were grossly inflated, leading some locals to joke about the loss of their thirty-thousand dollar umbrellas.
